Pencil Drawing of Meg – A Much Loved Cat

Meg lived to the grand age of 19 and was very much a part of their family. She came into their lives as a 4 month old rescue kitten and quickly became loved by the whole family. Sadly her passing came quite suddenly. Helen described in her email how difficult it had been as they had hoped for a few more years together. It was clear from how deeply loved Meg was by all of her family, and I knew how important this portrait would be.

We worked closely together to choose the best reference photo. As Meg had classic black and white markings, a pencil drawing was the perfect choice to capture her character. After reviewing two different mock-ups, the family unanimously chose the one where Meg’s eyes were more open, giving a more alert and expressive look. It was also important to include her collar and tag which she always wore, and a small blemish on her left eye that added to her unique personality.

The Portrait of Meg

I created the portrait at 14 x 11 inches, the same size as their earlier portrait of Mitzy, and we were delighted to hear that they had a local framer ready to frame.

“I’m almost speechless at the likeness to her. It is superb. I could make a list of superlative words and none of them would be good enough to describe what you have created. Losing Meg after almost 19 years was awful but her portrait feels as close as it can be to having her still with us.”

Helen sent us a lovely family photo taken on Christmas Day, showing them all gathered around the framed portrait. I was so thrilled to receive it and I can’t thank the whole family enough. Not only for sharing it with me, but also allowing me to create this page about Meg and her portrait. I really hope this is a wonderful tribute to Meg.
